•What is Beanstack?

Introducing Beanstack, a virtual summer reading platform allowing families to set up, log in and manage each member’s reading challenges from one central location. You can use a computer, smartphone, or tablet to log reading and activities. Beanstack Tracker App is available in the App Store and Google Play Store. Your account will carry over to next summer and other reading programs!

Beanstack allows you to:

• Keep track of all family members’ reading logs, progress, and rewards on one account.
• Log reading from home or on the go.
• See recommended virtual Summer Reading events at the library!
• Complete activities to unlock badges.
• Read and write book reviews of the books you read.

•How do I register as an individual or as a family? 

Instructions for web version of Beanstack:

  1. Go to STMARYLIBRARY.BEANSTACK.ORG
  2. Click on Register an Individual or Family.
  3. You will be asked if you want to register yourself or your child.
  4. If registering as a family, the parent/caregiver should begin by clicking I am Registering Myself
  5. You will be asked for your first name, last name, username, password, phone number, primary branch, age and grade level. Adults will choose 18+ for ages and Adult for grade. 
  6. The Library’s reading programs are organized by age. A reader will only be able to register for the program for their age. Click on the program name to learn more about how it works.
    • Children is for grades 0-3rd Grade
    • Teen is for grades 4th-12th Grade
    • Adult is ages 18+ 
  7. Once registered, you will be asked if you want to add another adult or child.
  8. The username and password created for the family account should be used by all family members you created to log in to their Beanstack account. 

•How to I log books?

The Beanstack app does allow readers to scan the bar code on the back of the book to log reading. Scanning the barcode with a library’s name will NOT work.

Instructions for web version of Beanstack:

  1. Sign into your Beanstack account at
    STMARYLIBRARY.BEANSTACK.ORG
  2. Click the Log Reading and Activities button above Reader’s name.
  3. Select the Reader you’d like to log for, then select Minutes.
  4. A calendar will open for you to select the day for which you are logging.
  5. Type in the number of minutes/books read. 
  6. Adding Title and Author and writing a book review are optional. You will find the books you read and reviewed under the Challenge Log button.

•How do I log activities?

Instructions for web version of Beanstack:

  1. Sign into your Beanstack account at  
  2. Select the Reader you would like to log for, then select Activities.
  3. A calendar will open for you to select the day for which you are logging.
  4. Choose which Activity Badge you want to log.
  5. Once in the Badge, click on the activities you completed.
  6. The Badge description will list how many activities you need to do to earn the Badge.

•Do readers earn prizes for completing the program?

Yes! Readers in the Summer Reading Challenges, earn an assortment of prizes and goodies during and after completing their programs. To complete the programs, readers need to read 600 minutes and unlock the logging badges.

•How to we redeem our prizes?

Prizes can be redeemed at the branch you are registered to. In order to redeem prizes, you must call ahead of pickup. 

•Are there Grand Prize Drawings this year?

Yes! Each program has its own Grand Prize Drawing. Every time readers log minutes, it increases your chances to win!
