USE YOUR LIBRARY CARD TO EXPLORE LOUISIANA’S STATE PARKS & HISTORIC SITES FOR FREE!
The State Library of Louisiana, in partnership with Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser and Louisiana State Parks, has developed a program known as Check Out Lousiana State Parks, launching on October 1, 2024, at St. Mary Parish Library. Patrons can discover the beauty and history of Louisiana by checking out a state park pass and a backpack to use when exploring Louisiana.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Park Access:
- Ticket grants one-day access to 21 parks/16 historic sites in Louisiana.
- Present to ranger for entry; valid once daily per site per family.
- Does not include amenities like cabins or RV lots; no overnight stays.
Library Restrictions:
- Pass can be checked out once every six months by patron/family.
- No holds; available first-come, first-served.
- Does not need to return to the library.
GEAUX EXPLORE BACKPACK
Each St. Mary Parish Library branch offers one backpack for a 7-day checkout period, not renewable and without holds.
The backpack includes:
- Binoculars
- Three guides: Louisiana Trees and Wildflowers, Louisiana Birds, Louisiana Wildlife.
- Leave No Trace guides
- Compass
- Magnifying glass
- Full replacement cost: $60
