Earn, Save, Spend, Budget! Kids Can Learn about Personal Finance through the New Library Program
Thinking Money for Kids is a program created by the American Library Association (ALA) in collaboration with the FINRA Investor Education Foundation. Its goal is to educate children ages 3 to 12, along with their parents, caregivers, and educators, about essential financial concepts such as saving, spending, sharing, and budgeting in a fun and impactful manner. St. Mary Parish Library is among the 200 public libraries that received a kit through this grant. You can visit the library for in-person programs designed for kids or borrow a tablet filled with entertaining games, courtesy of the Thinking Money for Kids initiative.
Launchpad Tablets
St. Mary Parish Library offers Playaway Launchpad tablets for checkout, featuring pre-loaded financial education games! These kid-friendly devices can be borrowed for one week and are available at most branches, with no internet required. All you need is your library card to get started!
Programs
In-person programs will be available in the parish for kids to engage in activities such as creating a farm, participating in a puppet show, learning about pet adoption, and planning parties, all while covering personal finance topics like saving and budgeting. Keep updated through our Facebook page, our newsletter, or our website calendar for when to visit the library for in-person programs.
